A couple from Scarborough, who are in their 70s, are spending their first Valentine's Day together as a married couple.

Annette and Sam Rhodes orignally got together in 1957 when they were teenagers.

But they split up two years later and got back together in 2018 before tying the knot last year, a week before the first lockdown in March.

Sam describes how it has been since becoming husband and wife:

"We got married a week before lockdown, stayed in a hotel, and then on the Saturday when we walked out, they locked the doors, and we've been locked in our own house since more or less. We go for a daily walk around the castle, the pier or wherever and basically that's it."

He explains how they are going to spend their Valentine's Day:

"There's not a lot we can do. We can't go out or go for a meal at a restaurant or to a pub. We'll just have to stay together and probably have something to eat in the house."

Sam explains what he loves about Annette:

"Everything about her. She's funny, she makes me laugh and we're happy together. Just everything."

Annette said:

"Well, the same really. I love him and it was the best day ever that he actually came and found me after 60 years and that's a long time, but yeah, we get on. We're fine and I suppose it's about loving each other really, all those years and we never forgot each other."
