Scarborough’s coronavirus infection rate has plummeted, as non-essential shops and pubs get ready to re-open today.

The borough’s seven-day coronavirus infection rate, per 100,000 people, has fallen to 24 - after hitting 47 on Friday last week.

At one point last week, the borough’s rate hit 50 and was the highest in North Yorkshire.

Today, pubs and restaurants will once again be able to serve people seated outside and non-essential shops are also welcoming customers back.

Hairdressers are also allowed to open their doors and self-catering holidays with members of a household, or a support bubble, are an option again.

Mobile testing facilities will be available in Whitby, Scarborough and Filey this week, for anyone with symptoms to get tested.
