Scarborough Business Ambassadors says it is going to do everything it can to make sure the town's 'prosperous' this year.

It is as a new unitary authority comes into place from the 1st of April and the town missed out on funding from the Government.

Jo Thompson, Chair of Scarborough Business Ambassadors, said: "We're working very closely with the new local unitary authority. We're trying to understand what is going to be possible with regards to constraints of funding and things like that. We're really trying to make a difference to help Scarborough's prosperous future.

"I think we have every opportunity for a prosperous Scarborough. There are so many people in this town committed to Scarborough's prosperous future. So many stakeholders are wanting to give their time, effort, energy and resource to help Scarborough move forward.

"Yes it may be challenging but we will focus on many different areas to have positive impacts in education activities, health and wellbeing aspirations, arts and culture projects and we really want to be here to support Scarborough's prosperity and we'll do everything we can to ensure that happens.

"We'll have to wait and see what happens with the new unitary authority. We have got very close connections with them. They're very keen to work very close with the stakeholders within the town and we will make sure that it works. We'll keep those relationships at the forefront and we'll work extremely hard to make sure that Scarborough is heard.

"There are so many exciting things happening. We didn't get that round of money but with the Brunswick centre's developments and the proposed cinema that's going in there, that's going to be transformational for the town. I don't want to sort of focus too much on disappointment, I want to focus on what's acutally happening and there are lots of good things."
