Scarborough Athletic have said they are "looking forward", after the departure of manager Danny Kelly on Monday (17 May).

The club says Kelly's resignation was a "total shock", but the board will act swiftly, but diligently, to find a replacement.

A number of managers and coaches have expressed interest in the role, but a statement from the club says "no rash judgements will be made," despite the need to act quickly.

Reassuring fans ahead of a "very exciting campaign"

Chairman Trevor Bull said: "Sadly Darren leaving was a total shock. Just the day before we had been working with him on bringing in players ahead of the new season.

"He has explained everything to us because that is the type of guy that Darren is. He has been offered his dream job, working at an EFL club. We can't compete with that, so off he goes."We wish Darren well and thank him for everything he has done, but now it is time to recruit his successor.

"My phone and email has been going berserk for the past few days. There is a long and credible list of people who want to come in and manage Scarborough Athletic.

"Now we just have to work out who is the best fit for our club.

"We are hoping that we can appoint somebody quite quickly because we want stability and we want to move forward.

"There is great news for our supporters in that we have been ringing around the players and they are absolutely committed to playing for the club next season.

"I know fans have been worried about certain players leaving, but they have assured me that that isn't the case.

"Any new manager coming in won't have to start from scratch. They have the basis of an excellent squad, which will include some exciting new players that are also keen to join."
