Blueprints for Scarborough and Whitby will help safeguard the future of both towns, according to the Leader of the Borough Council.

Steve Siddons has been talking about the decision we told you about last week to invest £17m in Whitby.

It comes hot on the heels of plans for Scarborough which include a new 'station gateway' and investment in the harbour.

Steve said:

"We're two months into the Scarborough blueprint and we've already got a whole string of investors who are showing really serious interest in Scarborough and developing on those projects that our communities decided were important for them.

"One of the most exciting ones is the new maritime centre which will be a training centre for local people who want to get involved in maritime. We've got to recognise that the old maritime industries are not in the same place as they were a few years ago".

"I think one of the exciting things I feel about the Whitby plan is that it's very much focussed on residents. Whitby's recognised as a very powerful tourist draw and I think sometimes residents have felt left behind. Any of the projects that are in the Whitby blueprint are focussed on residents.
