A Royal Marines band says they are ready to lead the parade through Scarborough on National Armed Forces Day.

We have been speaking to a number of people who will be taking part in the massive event, with 12 days to go until the celebrations.

The Royal Marines band from HMS Collingwood will also be holding a concert at the Spa in the evening.

The band's being led by Director of Music, Captain Sam Hairsine, who is from Yorkshire, and he said: "Well the band of Her Majesty's Royal Marines is part of the gala dinner the night before. On the Saturday itself, we're going to be leading the parade through Scarborough and then in the evening, we're doing a very special Armed Forces Day concert in the Spa at 7.30pm.

"It's a Navy lead this year so the Naval Regional Commander has been taking a lot of the strain of the organisation in conjunction with Scarborough Borough Council who are pulling out all the stops as well. From our end, we're used to doing parades and concerts but it's trying to make it the right thing for the day. It's a very special day being the national event and with it being in Scarborough.

"We were at the Platinum Jubilee and with being a state band, we're used to doing big events but it doesn't make them any less special though. We're really looking forward to this. We were out at Parliament for a Falklands 40 event for the Speaker of the House and the Prime Minister was there with Princess Anne. It would be nice to bump into them again in Scarborough this time.

"Come along and have a great day. The whole event is going to be fantastic. There's going to be flying displays, we've got some warships off the coast I think, we'll have Royal Marines walking around doing combat displays, we have four bands from each services and the Yorkshire volunteers as well parading, doing music throughout the day, and then come along to the concert."
