Stretch of rural road near Selby named as most dangerous in Yorkshire for young drivers
The AA's Charitable Trust is calling for more training for learner drivers.
A stretch of road between the A19 near Selby and the A614 near Market Weighton has been revealed as the most dangerous rural road in Yorkshire, for young drivers.
The research was completed by the AA's Charitable Trust, which is calling for more checks for learner drivers before they pass their test.
It's based on the number of fatalities among drivers aged 17-24 years, compared to other age groups.
Nationally, the research found as many as seven in ten young driver deaths (69%) take place on rural roads.
Edmund King, director of the AA's Charitable Trust, said: "Many people tend to thing motorways are the most dangeroud roads because their faster. Well, they're not. It is rural roads. A young driver is almost four times as likely to be killed on a rural road as on an urban road.
"When young people are learning to drive, they should be taught to drive on all different roads, in different weather conditions, and different times of the day and night. The research clearly shows it just comes down to experience.
"One of the things we advocate is that you have a graduated log book. It ensures that you drive on rural roads, urban roads, that you drive at night, and drive in different weather conditions, before you pass the test."
