MP collecting warm clothes for those in need in York
Rachael Maskell will be holding a Warm and Well Donation Event today
Rachael Maskell will be holding a Warm and Well Donation Event today to collect new thermal clothing for people across the city who need warm clothing this winter. The items will then be handed to York charities for distribution to the people most able to benefit from them.
The York Central MP and a team of volunteers will be at the Priory Street Centre at 15 Priory Street, York between 10:00am and 3:00pm to collect new thermal clothing including socks, underwear, vests, base layers, gloves and hats.
The collection this December forms part of the “York Together” collection which saw the MP previously organise a clothing collection in November 2022, and then a food donation event last year. Ms Maskell also plans to continue to hold these events in the future. The MP has also published a Warm and Well Handbook which is currently being delivered to households across the city.
Rachael Maskell MP says:
“I care deeply about the people across our city who cannot afford to heat their homes or buy the winter clothing they need. With the cost of housing, energy bills, food and clothing so high, it is important that people get help if they are struggling. I urge everyone to check their families and friends as well as neighbours. People can sometimes find it difficult to reach out and ask for help but if we all look out for each other, these actions can be a lifeline for many.
“If you are able to donate some thermal clothing this winter, please bring this to the Priory Street Centre on Saturday 14 December. We have asked for new items as people will be extremely grateful to everyone who is able to donate, even if this is a pair of socks or an item of underwear. I hope that many people will benefit as a result of this collection and I look forward to organising more events like this in the future."
