Scarborough bookshop owner: 'Huge amount of hype' around Prince Harry's book

Prince Harry's autobiography is out today

Prince Harry's new autobiography 'Spare' goes on sale on the Yorkshire Coast today.

His memoir has left people divided, with one bookshop in Whitby saying they have had "limited customer interest and not any pre-orders."

They added that they will be stocking the book and expecting copies in today's delivery and they are confident they will be able to meet the demand.

Meanwhile in Scarborough, Daniel Spink owns Mrs. Lofthouse's Emporium on Queen Street and says they do not generally stock the latest titles due to pricing.

He added: "There's obviously a huge amount of hype about this book. The media have been talking a lot about Prince Harry, Meghan and the Royals in general for the last three or four years due to this 'feud', so that's obviously what's fuelling the interest in the book at the moment.

"I've only been running this bookshop for two years now so I've not really seen anything get hyped like this in terms of books. I guess back in the days of Harry Potter, there were books like this all the time that were hyped. Personally, I've not seen anything like the amount of hype that we've seen on this book.

The book went on sale accidentally in Spain last week and Daniel added: "I think a lot of times when all these 'errors' are made I think there may be something to it. It gets them in the news, gets them more attention so it might have been an accidental slip but it certainly got them on the news more."
