We're told the incident at York Minster has been brought to a safe conclusion.

A North Yorkshire fire and rescue issued a statement earlier - it reads:

'Crews from York, Tadcaster, Ripon and the ALP from Harrogate responded to a report of a male who had climbed to the top of some scaffolding on a building on Duncombe Place.

'Crews liaised with police and ambulance crews to establish a rescue plan.

'The male climbed down the scaffolding via the internal ladder of his own accord and was left in the care of police and ambulance crews.'

Earlier we reported:

Police are urging people to avoid the centre of York after a man has climbed to the top of York Minster.

North Yorkshire Police said it is dealing with an 'ongoing incident'.

Officers have told us a man is currently on top of the building, having climbed the scaffolding at 11 o'clock last night (Tuesday, 23 November).
