New service planned at York and Scarbrough hospital for pregnant women following baby loss
A "rainbow clinic" is being planned at York and Scarborough hospital
There are plans to set up a specialist support service at York and Scarborough hospital for women who become pregnant again after losing a baby.
York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust say the "rainbow clinic" will provide extra physical and psychological support.
Bev Shelley is a specialist bereavement midwife and says they are hoping it will be ready to go next year: "We don't offer a specific clinic for next pregnancy, so we are looking at that, to try and work with Manchester, because that is one of the areas who specialise in that area."
Tanya Allen is a manager at Reflect, who offer baby loss support services in North Yorkshire and says any extra provision for women is welcome "What often women like is a chance to be listened to and to have that support following the loss and especially in the next pregnancy, because often when people are pregnant after a loss, because they've had a pregnancy where their dreams have been shattered they often feel anxious in their next pregnancy."
