Firefighters tackle large fire overnight in Pateley Bridge village

Several crews from across North Yorkshire were deployed to the area

Firefighters have been working overnight to tackle a large fire in a village near Harrogate.

Officers said they were alerted to an incident taking place at 10:12pm on Saturday night (September 14th).

Crews from across the county were eventually called to King Street in the village of Pateley Bridge to try and extinguish the fire, which had taken hold at a commercial premises.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said they had drawn on fire crews from the local area to help bring the fire under control.

The fire has been raging overnight, with firefighters continuing to put out any embers and smoulders that arise.

According to the service, the cause of the fire has not yet been discovered, with a full investigation to be launched on Sunday morning (September 15th).

In a statement, Pateley Bridge Town Council commended the work of the emergency services, and confirmed that there were no casualties in the fire.

The council said: "Thanks to the fire crews, police and ambulance, and a brave young member of the public, this awful fire in King Street last night didn't take any lives, and the school and the museum are safe.

"8 fire appliances were in attendance, and an amazing community pulled together in a crisis."

However, the council added that a number of council-owned property had gone missing, as a police cone and a light ring were not recovered following the incident.
