A North Yorkshire businessman has been rescued in Ecuador after reportedly been kidnapped.

78-year-old Colin Armstrong was reported to have been taken from his home this past weekend.

Ecuador's police chief has posted this morning reporting Mr Armstrong had been rescued in the province of Manabí and that nine people had been arrested.

He added that he he safe and healthy.

A statement from The Forbidden Forest, a business that Mr Armstrong owns says;

"We can confirm that Mr Colin Armstrong has successfully been released and is currently with the police having interviews and then will be returning to his Family in Ecuador .

"All of the UK family , staff and friends are delighted with the outcome and look forward to a happier Christmas.

The UK ambassador has posted on X, thanking police for their work in securing Mr Armstrong's release.
