Families in Harrogate are being asked to take part in a summer trail to support local businesses.

Organised by Harrogate Mumbler and the Harrogate Business Improvement District group, families can follow the Water Trail through the town's shops and cafes and enjoy the outdoors.

The Water Trail is based on Harrogate's most famous export - water - and there is a small treat for each participating child, which can be collected from any of the 20 town centre participating retailers.

Harrogate Mumbler staff will be in the town centre on key dates during the summer giving away bottles of Thirsty Planet water, purple Mumbler balloons and Water Trail answer sheets.

Sally Haslewood from Harrogate Mumbler, said: “Anything that we can do to support our retailers will always be important but especially after the last 18 months we really want to help them out.

"This hopefully will help families make shopping trips a little bit more enjoyable if they have got little ones with them and encourage them to come back time and time again to places they perhaps haven't been to before.

"We hope this trail will encourage families into town after the recent lockdowns, and in doing so will support our local town centre.

"It’s a special year for Harrogate Mumbler as we turn 10 years old next month and so it’s great to be able to put on a free event like this, to give families something free to enjoy this summer. We love our town and have made Harrogate the star of this trail."

The map to follow when taking part in the Water Trail

The Water Trail has 2 different challenges for families to enjoy; firstly finding the 20 water themed pictures and secondly answering the 20 Harrogate trivia questions.

There are 4 water trail routes:

1) Water Sports (Located in the West Park Quarter)

2) Animals that you’ll find in water (Located in the Victoria Quarter)

3) Local bodies of water (located in the Montpellier Quarter)

4) Water saving tips. (Located in the Kings Quarter)

Each route consists of 5 images, so there are 20 pictures in total in shop windows in the town centre.

The free trail will run throughout the summer holidays until Sunday 5th September 2021.

Families can download their own answer sheets from the Harrogate Mumbler website or they can pick one up from any of the participating retailers or collect one from the Harrogate BID stand in the Victoria Shopping Centre.

Participants can download answer sheets, a map and clues from the Harrogate Mumbler website. Alternatively, if you spot a Water Trail poster in a shop window, you can pop in and ask for an answer sheet.
