A new Covid test site has opened in the city centre for visitors, residents and people who work in York.

The centre has opened in St William’s College close to York Minster, will be open seven days a week and people do not need to book an appointment.

But anyone with Covid symptoms should book a test through the NHS.

Health bosses are urging people to regular Covid tests at one of the city’s sites, even if they have no symptoms.

Maggie McLean, Canon Missioner at York Minster said:

“Locating the new testing centre at St William’s College in the heart of the York Minster Precinct will make it possible for local residents, workers and visitors to drop in and get tested on a regular and routine basis.

“St William’s College is a much-loved landmark in the city centre.

“Everyone at York Minster is delighted that the building will make an important contribution to the city’s public health effort to keep infection rates under control.”

Test sites have also opened at Acomb Explore Library, Foxwood Community Centre, University of York, York St John University and York Stadium Leisure Complex.

Home testing kits will not be available for collection at St William’s College but can be picked up at existing sites or online.
