East Riding Council has unveiled new grants aimed at businesses open during lockdown but “severely impacted” by coronavirus.

East Riding Council’s Additional Restrictions Grant is also available for companies closed during lockdown and without rateable premises but with fixed property costs such as rents.

Council leader Richard Burton said: “Throughout the coronavirus pandemic, the council has and is continuing to do all it can to support local businesses, whether that be by providing advice and guidance or through practical support, such as financial aid, and help the East Riding economy through these challenging circumstances and position our region to grow and thrive in the future.”

The first batch of the grants covers the current national lockdown, from Thursday, November 5 to Wednesday, December 2.

Grants range from ÂŁ500 for companies with either a rateable value or annual fixed ongoing property costs of up to ÂŁ5,000, to ÂŁ3,000 for those with ÂŁ51,000 and over.

Businesses are required to prove they have suffered a “severe impact” on their income of at least a 30 per cent reduction if they are still open.

The grants are aimed at essential shops open during lockdown and at their suppliers, as well as those who supply businesses currently closed.

The council said in a statement its criteria prioritised those businesses which had not yet qualified for the government funded grants.
