More donations wanted to help tackle food poverty in Whitby
It's for the People's Kitchen and Community Fridge
There is an appeal for more donations to help those in Whitby who are struggling with food poverty.
Flash Company Arts is based at Flowergate Hall and runs the community fridge there as well as the People's Kitchen which is a pay-as-you-feel cafe.
Rebecca Denniff is a director there and said: "We're working closely with local businesses and we've got a box at the front of the store in Sainsbury's, so anybody who's got anything in the back of their cupboards can pop it in that box, but equally anyone who's doing a shop can pop something in along with Hope Whitby's box there as well.
"We work closely with other providers and with other members of the Whitby Community Alliance. Flash Company Arts is the community anchor organisation for Whitby now which is very exciting but it means we have more opportunities to work in collaborative partnerships to reach everybody who needs to be reached.
"There's always worries we'll run out of food but we have to remain optimistic. We know people are so kind and generous that we wouldn't want people to take food out of their own mouths to help other people. There have to be ways we can support everyone so we're always very welcoming of thoughtful donations.
"If anybody thinks 'I can definitely donate' that would be amazing. We particularly would love to have more volunteers to support us. The more people in the building helping the more we can do, but we also appreciate that people are stretched and you might not feel like you've got the energy to help anyone because you've got to look after yourself."
