People living with MND in North Yorkshire say they'll forever be grateful to Kevin Sinfield for his fundraising efforts to help raise awareness of the disease.

Last night the Leeds Rhinos legend finished his 7th ultra marathon in 7 days to raise money for those impacted by Motor Neurone Disease.

Ian Flatt from Green Hammerton - near Harrogate - was diagnosed in 2019 and says he's helped shine a light on what is a "brutal" condition: "It can leave you feeling quite lonely and I think because you are not always confident in how your body or your breathing or how you are talking, you withdraw."

He credits Kevin Sinfield and his former team mate Rob Burrow with helping to change the conversation around MND. "Between 2019 when I was diagnosed and now, the difference is phenomenal. The script has changed and the conversation has changed. The idea that 'go and sort your will out and decide where to die' they were the conversations in 2019 and it was as stark as that and it's not that anymore."

Ever since Burrow's diagnosis in 2019, Sinfield has undertaken three gruelling challenges, raising millions of pounds for the MND community, which goes to charities researching the disease and The Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease, in Leeds.

The 7 in 7 in 7 Challenge has seen Sinfield and his team run an ultra marathon every day for seven days in seven cities around Great Britain and Ireland.

Each run was a marathon with an extra mile to signify the extra mile people can all go to help their friends in tough times.

Kevin Sinfield only announced his fourth challenge last month, he said, “Here we go again! I did say last year that the Ultra 7 in 7 would complete the trilogy but there was always that caveat that Rocky 4 was my favourite Rocky film.

"The MND community have always given us incredible support and we wanted to find a way that we could show that support for more people around the country."
