People in Scarborough are being invited to go to a memorial service for Her Majesty The Queen tonight.

It will be held at St. Mary's Church on Castle Road at 7pm.

It is a chance for people to pay their respects, give thanks, and offer memories and gratitude.

Richard Walker, Vicar of Scarborough, said: "It will be a fairly formal service where we can reflect, remember, give thanks, pray, light a candle, sit quietly or sing the songs and hymns that we're going to be singing. It'll enable people to bring their memories of the Queen into that sacred space.

"The Mayor of the Borough of Scarborough has been invited, the RNLI, the Seacadets, Royal British Legion and the Merchant Navy, so a number of organisations that would represent our town are, I would hope, be coming along. It would be great to see them and for them to enjoy the whole process as well.

"Her last action of receiving the new Prime Minister really epitomized what I understand that she was about. Despite her own ill health, she prioritised that time for Liz Truss to be received as Prime Minister, which shows her self-giving nature, duty and loyalty but I think sacrifice is a word I'd use."

After the Queen's passing, King Charles III gave a speech to the nation.

Richard added: "He delivered an amazing speech. I thought his sense of trying to cover all the bases, making sure that we were comfortable, felt secure and that we weren't worried about this transition. I thought those things were really wonderful and gave me a lot of confidence in the Monarchy going forward. He will follow like his mother in the same footsteps."
