The Labour Leader says there needs be to an ambitious plan for high streets on the Yorkshire Coast.

Sir Keir Starmer has been speaking on what investments need to be done to improve seaside towns.

He said:

"Transport links are vitally important, investing in local jobs is vitally important, our high streets are vitally important. High streets are what attract people into seaside towns, and what I've seen is too many high streets where there are boarded up shops where businesses haven't had the support that they need.

"We need an ambitious plan for our high streets and that's why we argued over the last 12 months or so, that some of the money that hasn't been used on other things during the pandemic should be fed directly into our high streets because they need to thrive, people want to come into their high streets, they want to be proud of their high street and I think that will make a massive difference to some of these seaside towns.

"I want to see them succeed. They're fantastic those seaside towns, brilliant landscape, brilliant countryside fantastic beaches and they've got everything there but they just need a plan, investment, ambition and real action to safeguard the high street."
