Knaresborough author and illustrator team up to create children's book about town's landmarks
They've even sold copies in North America
A Knaresborough author and illustrator are putting the town on the map with the release of their new book.
The Terrible Day Heidi Lost Her Whistle takes the reader on a tour of the town with sights like the viaduct and Mother Shipton's featured in its illustrations.
The book has been a hit with children locally and across the pond, with sales over in North America.
Estelle Green, author, said:
"The idea came from my granddaughter. She was playing in the bath and had a whistle with her and then we were walking around the town and I thought it would be a great idea to create a book about a little girl who loses her whistle in the town and has to go searching for it.
"People seemed to really like it and when you hear what the children say about it, they love seeing pictures and hearing about the things they see every day like Mother Shipton's and Blind Jack.
"Me and my granddaughter do loads of reading together so this is a way children can learn about the history of the town and see the pictures. They can learn about Knaresborough and its glory."
Amy Horton, illustrator, said:
"It's something really different for me to do because my normal artwork is usually realistic so an illustration style was something I had to develop and try different things.
"It's great that children are recognising the sights through the images. The children can go on a walk around the town to try and find them by taking the book with them."
Copies of the book are £8 and can be purchased on Amazon or by contacting Amy at amyhorton1982@gmail.com.
