Preparations are underway in Hunmanby to hold a heritage open day later this year.

On the 11th of September, the village will be part of what is being called 'England's largest festival of history and culture'.

It aims to bring together local people and organisations.

John and Monica Bridge are from the Friends of Hunmanby Railway Station group.

John said:

"We'll be setting up display boards to show all the old photographs because when the railway first came through in 1847, there used to be a signal box on the other side of the road, there used to be a signal man and a level crossing expert and also we'll be hoping to show old service maps of the station as we've got some nice ones.

"We're going to show people what we have here. We've got children's bug hotels on the other side. The children in the village built them and we've got them up on the fence so we hope to really include the station as very much a part of Hunmanby, which it is, and we just want to encourage that".

Monica has issued an appeal to the public and explains what she is asking for:

"Mainly if they've got any photographs, if they could bring them along and if we can take a copy or if they can give us some, that would be even better and if possible with an approximate date that it was taken as that's very often what we lack.

"Heritage day is all about edible plants so Hunmanby in Bloom will be selling plants in the village and people will be encouraged to help themselves to any of the edible plants on the station; so we've got herbs, thyme, rosemary and bay leaves so we'll have them all labelled and people can help themselves".
