Community groups in and around Hunmanby are being urged to apply for a grant.

It is part of Scarborough Borough Council's 'locality budget' which is available until April next year.

Michelle Donohue-Moncrieff, who represents Hunmanby ward, said:

"Borough Councillors have been given a pot of £2,000 each; myself and Councillor Paul Riley represent Hunmanby ward, which covers the villages of Hunmanby, Reighton, Speeton, Flixton, Folkton and Muston, so community groups in those areas can apply to us for grants and the minimum amount is £250.

"We're really, really keen especially as we open up again as a lot of these community groups will be getting back and meeting again in-person and a lot of them wouldn't have had the chance to fundraise over the last 18 months so the aim here is to basically get the news that there is money available and we'd really welcome applications and expressions of interest.

"For example there's a scheme in Speeton at the moment where they're looking at some play equipment and I've suggested to the Parish Council that I'd be quite happy to support that scheme, but there's lots of schemes in the various villages like community fridges so it's not necessarily just for a physical piece of equipment, it might be to help a community group get back going again.

"The more creative the better to be quite honest. There's no right or wrong answer. If somebody's got an idea then please get in contact with either myself or Paul and we'll talk it through. This period is operating between April this year and April next year, so it's not an emergency but I'd like to get some ideas in now so we can get moving on it".
