The Great Big Green Week on the Yorkshire Coast has started and people are being urged to take part.

It is part of a nationwide celebration of action on climate change with dozens of events happening.

It is being supported by Scarborough-based Coast and Vale Community Action.

David Stone is from there and wants people to do 'Random Acts of Greenness'.

He said: "A lot of people have heard Random Acts of Kindness and it's a similar idea. We're asking people just to commit to doing one simple action that has positive impact on nature and the climate; so that could be leaving your car at home and walking to work or school, giving up meat for a couple of days or the whole week.

"The response has been absolutely fantastic. We really are genuinely taken aback by how many people really do care about climate and nature, and realise that part of the solution is to take responsbility of the things that they do. We've got businesses involved.

"I think everything that is happening is valuable, even the smallest act of greenness to the largest public event, they all have a role to play. Everyone can do a bit whether it's a large or small thing."
