There is fresh concern over the impact the cost of living crisis is having on people's mental health.

It is why a new project is launching in York to offer people who are receiving benefits to receive up to 10 free counselling sessions.

Cat Adlam, head of psychological therapy for adults at the Retreat, said: "Therapy is a difficult thing sometimes to justify for people, especially at the moment when there are those other competing demands for limited resources. It can be a really difficult decision to make.

"We know it's such a difficult time that people are going through post-pandemic and our trustees here felt that it's something that they've wanted to do for some time but the time felt even more important."
