Scarborough residents encouraged to take advantage of free meals

A café in Scarborough Is encouraging people to use built-up money, which can be spent on free meals for anyone who needs them.

The Hideout Cafe Kitchen and Bar, on Columbus Ravine, started the 'Pay Forward' scheme after lockdown.

Its customers have been paying for extra things on the menu to build up a bank of funds, which others can use, but not enough people have been taking advantage of the offer.

It could be through embarrassment or pride.

But co-owner, Aaron Padgham, said:

"It's easy to say 'don't be embarrassed', but we'll be very discreet about it. You just pick up a post-it note, no question asked whatsoever, But also, if you want to get in touch with us in advance, or message us on facebook, we'll sort it out and when you come in just let us know and we'll sort it out for you."
