North Yorkshire foodbank cuts back hours because of lack of donations
But more people are needing support because of the rising cost of living
We're hearing about the pressure on North Yorkshire's foodbanks as they try to keep up with growing demand.
A drop in donations means one in York has had to cut its hours - despite more people than ever needing support. Hilary Platt runs the foodbank on the Bell farm estate in York and says it's a really difficult situation.
"We have had to reduce our hours, our times, what we give out, because we just haven't got the donations coming in of dried food tins, cereals, that kind of thing."
"We're not getting hardly anything in apart from bread and occasional fruit, which a lot of food banks do run on bread and fruit, but we just can't. The people who come here need more than that."
"Prices are going up, especially in York the rents are the things that are really, really killing people because people are paying out more in rent than they are in anything else. And then they've got nothing left for food at the end of the month. So what are they supposed to do?"
"And obviously we've got Christmas coming up. We normally do Christmas hampers, but unfortunately we don't have the money to do that. So if anybody would like to fund a few Christmas dinners, that would be fantastic."
