It is after we told you the Government awarded nearly ÂŁ40 million pounds of its Towns Fund for Scarborough and Whitby only.
Scarborough will get ÂŁ20.2 million and Whitby will get ÂŁ17.1 million after successful bids, although the Borough Council had originally applied for ÂŁ25 million for each town.
Steve Siddons said:
"I'm delighted for the borough; it's a belief in our borough, our people, our businesses and I can't wait to get working with the two towns' board to pull our schemes together so we can actually get hold of the money.
"What it will do is kickstart the economy we believe. We feel that having this money will enable us to regenerate particularly the town centres, make sure that we've got facilities that people want to come and visit and want to come into towns.
"We're spending some money on the Harbour. We'll be regenerating the West Pier for leisure, hospitality and other industries which will support the fishing industry. We've got work going on at the train station gateway which will improve that area.
"The Government decided on the towns that would get the money and Filey was not included. But we've recognised that and we've allocated some money in our budget to make sure that Filey doesn't miss out on this.
"We're talking to Filey about what they need and we will try and accommodate everything they require. They're not as ambitious as us in the sense that they need lots of big changes, it's mainly smaller things but we're working with the Town Council to make sure that they get what they need."
