Filey's Emergency Services family fun day hailed a success
More than 4,000 people enjoyed meeting emergency service personnel over the weekend
An Emergency Services family fun day in Filey has been hailed a success.
More than 4,000 people met personnel at the town's Sports Field with a range of activities taking place including demonstrations with stalls, games, refreshments, bouncy castles, a mini train, and a chance to see police and fire vehicle up close.
Highlight of the event was a visit by Yorkshire Air Ambulance’s helicopter, allowing visitors to talk to the crew and climb inside the cockpit.
The event was organised as part of Operation Cracker by Filey and Eastfield Police, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service supported by Filey Playing Fields Association and Filey Lions.
There were also stands offering information on National Coast Watch, HM Coastguard, Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team, Institute of Advanced Motorists, Community First Responders, Crimestoppers UK, Sea Cadets and Marine Rescue.
Sergeant Vicky Quigley, of the Filey and Eastfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “The aim of the event was to provide members of the public with an opportunity to find out more about our work within the community and chat to members of our emergency services.
“It was a tremendous success. Event staff counted to 4,000 during the whole day – double the number of visitors from last year.
“Thank you to everyone who played a part in making it a truly memorable occasion.”
