Farmers urged to be cautious to stop spread of bird flu

There have been several outbreaks across North Yorkshire in recent weeks

Farmers have been told to be extra cautious as more cases of bird flu have been confirmed in North Yorkshire.

Anna Simpson is from the National Farmers Union branch which is based in York. She has told us "Unfortunately it's been a real big problem in the area over Winter and all through Summer which is really unusual. It's not been so prevalent in the past. It's something our farmers need to bear in mind and try and keep their bio security as high and as strict as possible."

Premises near Selby, Selby, North Yorkshire

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed in commercial poultry on 28 September at a premises near Selby, Selby, North Yorkshire. A 3km Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone was declared around the premises. All poultry on the premises will be humanely culled.

Premises near Easingwold, Hambleton, North Yorkshire

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed in commercial poultry on 22 September 2022 at a premises near Easingwold, Hambleton, North Yorkshire. A 3km Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone was declared around the premises. All birds have been humanely culled.

Premises near Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire, Yorkshire

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) was suspected in commercial poultry on 27 August at a premises near Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire, Yorkshire. Following official testing, highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed on 28 August 2022. The Temporary Control Zone has been revoked and replaced by a 3km Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone. All poultry on the premises have been humanely culled.

Second premises near Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire, Yorkshire

Highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 was confirmed in poultry on 6 September at a second premises near Bridlington, East Riding of Yorkshire, Yorkshire. A 3km Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone was declared around the premises. All poultry have been humanely culled.
