Extra safety measures to ensure the safety of staff and voters at polling stations will be in place for the election of the next Humberside Police and Crime Commissioner.
The election for the PCC is taking place on Thursday, 6 May.
While polling stations will be made as safe and secure as possible for electors to cast their vote in person on the day, people don’t have to attend a polling station to make their vote count.
Those who are already on the electoral register can opt for a postal vote or appoint someone as a proxy to vote on their behalf.
The deadline for applying for a postal vote is 5pm on Tuesday, 20 April 2021 while the deadline for applying for a proxy vote is 5pm on Tuesday, 27 April, 2021.
If you are not already on the electoral register, registering to vote is quick and easy and can be completed online via the council’s website – www.eastriding.gov.uk/council/elections-and-voting/registertovote or www.gov.uk/registertovote
Once registered, or if you are already on the electoral register and you wish to vote by post or to appoint someone to vote on your behalf, you can complete an application form, again via the online application forms or by contacting the council’s electoral services team by email – electoral.services@eastriding.gov.uk
Caroline Lacey, chief executive of the council and returning officer said:
“The polling stations in May will be quite different to what people are used to as there will be a number of COVID-19 safety measures in place to ensure electors can cast their vote safely and that they are safe places for our polling staff to work in.
“But voters don’t have to attend a polling station to make their voice heard as one of the easiest and safest ways to vote this year is to request a postal vote or to appoint someone to vote on their behalf.
“Anyone who is already on the electoral register is able to apply for a postal vote by simply completing an application form online or by contacting our electoral services team.”
