Elderly man dies after being hit by car in Harrogate

An 81 year-old man's died after being hit by a car in Harrogate.

It happened just before 5pm last night on Wetherby Road, near to the Esso garage, at the junction with Hookstone Chase.

The man was crossing the road at the time.

He was taken to hospital where he later died.

Police have spoken to the 35 year-old driver of the car - a Grey Audi A3. Officers are asking for anyone with dash-cam footage to come forward.

The road was closed for some time to allow emergency services to respond but reopened just before 1am.
