Christmas Fayre to take place in Eastfield
It's run by police and the Westway Open Arms Crisis Centre along with others
There is a special Christmas Fayre taking place in Eastfield today.
It has been organised as part of Operation Cracker by police officers, PCSOs and police volunteers from Eastfield Police Station.
It will be held at Holy Nativity Church, next to the Westway Open Arms, between 2pm and 5pm, and will bring local people together through fun activities, workshops and stalls for parents, children and young people alike.
Opening the event will be the arrival, at 2.15pm, of Santa Claus who will be trading in his bright red sleigh for a ride in Scarborough Fire and Rescue’s fire engine.
Among the many stalls and entertainments will be arts and crafts and face painting, a crepes and hot pudding van, Christmas sweets and treat and Santa’s grotto.
Children from Stephen Joseph Theatre and a ukulele band will also be putting on surprise theatre acts around the event.
PCSO Natalie Hayes, of Eastfield Police, said: “The Christmas Fayre is part of the ‘Springboard for Youth’ initiative which we have been running as part of Operation Cracker.
"It’s also a great opportunity for all the community to come together after the difficult time that we‘ve all been facing over the past 18 months.”
Welcoming the Christmas Fayre, Bernie Brown, Centre Manager at the Westway Open Arms, said: “We are very excited that the Fayre will be held this year in Holy Nativity Church in Eastfield, thanks to the partnership with both Westway Open Arms and Operation Cracker.
“It will be fantastic to see the community of Eastfield coming together after another difficult year.”
Also taking place today are the Fishtive Filey Christmas lights switch-on and Bridlington's Christmas tree street trail starts.
