North Yorkshire charity warns cost of living means more people at risk of homelessness
Sleep Safe Selby are trying to help as many people as possible
A North Yorkshire homeless centre says it now often has a waiting list as the cost-of-living forces more people out onto the streets.
Sleep Safe Selby has six separate rooms for people with nowhere else to go. But staff say rising bills and mental health problems means demand has been rising.
Manager and founder Tracey Romaine says when all their rooms are full, they still offer help and support to get people through the night: "We stock up on pop up tents, sleeping bags, quilts and warm clothing. People can always come here and have a hot shower and some food."
Claire received help from the centre eighteen months ago but now volunteers there. She says places like Sleep safe are invaluable: "I had a problem with drink and was in trouble all the time and Sleep Safe literally saved me, if it wasn't for Sleep Safe, I'd still be in and out of prison and getting drunk."
The Charity says although demand is rising, anyone needing help should reach out. They also say they are hugely grateful for any donations which can be dropped off at the centre.
