Cyclist in hospital following a collision with a car in York

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident in the city centre

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a collision in York city centre.

It happened yesterday (11th December) at around 5.40pm on Monkgate and involved a grey Hyundai car and a bicycle.

The car and the cyclist collided at the Huntington Road roundabout and following the incident the cyclist was taken to hospital for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the car, a man in his 50s failed a roadside drug test and was arrested on suspicion of drug driving and causing serious injury by careless driving. He was later charged with failing to provide a specimen and was remanded in custody.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses to the collision, anyone who may have seen the car or bike prior to the collision, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage, to contact them.
