A moooooving tale of a family reunion and a dairy, sorry daring, rescue mission.

A young cow got stuck on a steep riverbank at Nether Poppleton in York yesterday.

North Yorkshire FIre & Rescue herd about the newborn's plight and took the bull by the horns and reunited the calf with its mother - who was safely upstream a hundred metres.

The youngster is said to be bovine and well after the ordeal which involved being taken up the river by boat.

Teams from York, Acomb, Tadcaster and Selby attended the incident which happened around 9am on Monday (9th August).

(Sorry for all the cow related puns, we couldn't resist milking it - oh there's an udder one!)
