Counter Terrorism Policing are asking the public in North Yorkshire to trust their instincts over the Festive Season

With a winter season full of events, such as Christmas shopping, festive markets, pantomimes and concerts, officers say everyone has a role to play in keeping each other safe.

Counter Terror North East say: ''Together, we want to make sure as many people as possible feel reassured, stay alert and report their concerns this winter season.

'We are encouraging everyone to trust their instincts and report anything that doesn’t feel right to security or the police.

'Right now, Counter Terrorism Policing is working on more than 800 investigations nationally. Officers and staff are working around the clock with our partners to intervene against a range of threats.

'Demand continues to grow, as does the complexity that we are dealing with, particularly as we continue to see the domestic impact from ongoing worldwide conflict.

'The public play a vital role in our mission against terrorism. We have the tools and the skills, but we can do more if we have the right information at the right time.'

We take every report seriously

Superintendent Mark Jessop, Head of Protect & Prepare at Counter Terrorism Policing North East, said:

“The terror threat hasn’t gone away. The threat to the UK from terrorism is substantial, which means an attack is likely.

“That’s why we’re asking for people to bear this in mind and act if something doesn’t feel right.

“Our research shows that some people are reluctant to report because they worry they will get it wrong or waste police time.

“I want to reassure our communities that they are not wasting our time – we take every report seriously.

“The role of the public in our mission to keep people safe cannot be underestimated so please trust your instincts, stay alert and look out for each other.”
