Gallows Close Community Centre is issuing a plea for parents in Scarborough to take coronavirus seriously.

It is after it has been forced to close its doors to young people for a second time.

Staff there were told two children had attended football training despite having positive Covid-19 test results.

Kimmie Avison, Chief Executive, said:

"We still have staff that haven't been vaccinated so it's putting staff in danger, it's putting other children and families in danger and it runs the risk of us not being able to open our doors for the Summer club.

"Please, please, please take this seriously. We don't want to have to close our doors. It would just be a real shame when we've secured funding to be able to deliver such an amazing programme this way because we couldn't do it last year. Please just be more vigilant, please keep your children at home. We've got to keep everybody safe.

Kimmie added that this could have a huge impact on their team of just FOUR staff:

"So we opened our doors again in May and we have over 70 children that have signed up to the different activities that we provide at the centre and if I go down with Covid or if my assistant manager goes down, then that's it. There'll be no Summer club."
