Fears of more domestic abuse on Yorkshire coast during Euros
Concerns are being raised by a North Yorkshire charity.
There are worries the number of domestic abuse incidents on the Yorkshire coast will rise during the Euros.
It's as national figures show whenever England loses a game in a major tournament, calls to the police or domestic abuse services rise by 34 per cent.
North Yorkshire's Independent Domestic Abuse Service is raising awareness of the issue.
IDAS' Carmel Offord said:
"It isn't football causing domestic abuse, but there might be some factors associated with enjoying football that could exacerbate existing domestic abuse, such as frustrations and alcohol.
It's really important to say that football doesn't cause domestic abuse. We do see people who choose to be abusive usiong all sorts of excuses for their behavious and those excuses are also part of the abuse.
If somebody is blaming you for their behaviour, or football, or anything else then actually the issue is with them and the responsibility for that behaviour lies with them."
