A community club in Harrogate is giving out 30 hampers to local schools - to help families in need in the run-up to Christmas.

Harrogate Lions are delivering the hampers to Rossett School and Harrogate High School today and tomorrow.

The hampers are full of food, with some treats like sweets and chocolate for the children.

They've also been supporting struggling families in the district by giving out gift bags full of food during lockdown.

Bernadette Reid, from Harrogate Lions, said: "They're full of all kinds of goods, like ham, tins of meat, coffee, tea, and also lots of treats for the children like sweets and chocolate. We've got a good balance so there's a lot of substantial food and also some treats.

"We've got a special link with the schools and they know the families who are in need, and they can help take the hampers out to them, because with the Covid restrictions it's a bit difficult for us.

"I'd like to thank the supermarkets that have helped us - also Fodders in Harrogate have supplied us with fresh food to take to the schools. It's a community effort."
