Households in York to pay more council tax, as devolution deal agreed
City councillors have agreed to a 4.99% rise
Households in York are facing a council tax rise of nearly five percent, meaning those in Band D will pay £90 a year more.
It follows a similar decision from North Yorkshire County Council, who warned a new authority was facing a budget shortfall because rising prices.
City of York Council has also agreed to move forward with an historic devolution deal that could see it share a mayor with the rest of North Yorkshire.
It would unlock £540 million of government funding over the next 30 years, which the mayor would oversee.
They would also replace the Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner, and make decisions on housing, transport and adult services.
The plans will now be debated by North Yorkshire County Council, and sent to Levelling Up Secretary Michael Gove, if NYCC votes in their favour.
