North Yorkshire residents urged to be extra careful with Christmas lights

People in North Yorkshire are being asked to be extra careful with their Christmas lights this year.
The county's Fire and Rescue service says overdoing it with the electrics could lead to sockets catching fire.
It's as everyone's wanting to spread a little more festive cheer this season by putting up decorations.
Jonathan Foster, Deputy Chief at North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, said:
"We as a Fire and Rescue Service are keen to make sure that we all enjoy a Christmas of some sort. But I really, really do urge people to make sure that when you are putting your lights up, that they're safe and if you're unsure then get them tested and checked out.
"Don't use them if you're not sure about them, don't overload sockets and make sure that if you are displaying lights outside that they're properly secured and they're not going to create any hazards from water or ingress.
"Please make sure that they're done safely and they're not going to fall off and go into fires etc. If you're using candles then make sure they're separated away from any other combustible items; preferably don't use them but I appreciate some people do like to do that."
