Northallerton foodbank says new PM must support families with rising cost of living
Demand has soared at the Hambleton Foodshare warehouse
North Yorkshire MP Rishi Sunak is expected to meet the King today to be officially appointed as Prime Minister.
He won the Conservative Leadership contest yesterday.
He's already got a long list of problems to tackle.
Alison Grainger helps run a foodbank in Mr Sunak's constituency of Northallerton and says supporting families with the cost of living has to be a priority. She told us: "Well in reality it doesn't matter who the Prime Minister is as long as they are really supporting people and helping people who are struggling at the moment especially with utilities and the rising cost of food which we are seeing as a huge problem for people."
The rising cost of living means far more people in full time employment are turning to the foodbank for help. Alison explains: "We used to think 140 parcels are a lot, but in August we did 490 so it's a massive increase in what we are seeing for people."
