Some people in Bridlington are turning to DIY dentistry because they can't see someone on the NHS
The town has a particularly severe shortage of dentists
There's evidence some people in Bridlington are turning to DIY dentistry because they're not able to see someone on the NHS.
There's been a huge shortage of dentists in the town since the local Orthodontics centre shut in April.
Becky Crozier wasn't able to see one for over a year and turned to "makeshift" filling.
She now wants local dentists to publicise if they have availability.
We asked about how she'd coped with the situation.
She told us: "What I do at the moment is, you know, what you can get at the pharmacy, it's basically like having a filling but one that you put in and it lasts a couple of weeks."
"Basically once that falls out I'll redo it."
"However I don't know if it's clean or anything".
"Pre covid I had a great dentist, covid hit and they closed and I didn't get notified."
"When my fillings fell out I phoned up and they'd shut."
"I tried to get a new dentists and was told there's no dentists in Bridlington."
"I did get told there may be some in Driffield or further away."
"Obviously working full time, 2 kids, it's hard to get an appointment."
"I have to drink on side of my mouth, make sure what I'm eating."
"Normally you don't think about your teeth, now constantly I think, can I eat that".
"Is it too cold is it too crunchy?".
