Bridlington's Armed Forces Day has been cancelled.

It was due to take place on July the 3rd after last year's event didn't take place either.

Organiser, Martin Barmby, said:

"In accordance to current guidelines, we just don't have the manpower or the resources to hold any kind of event on Armed Forces Day. It's a sad day but we've all got roofs over our heads, we've all still got our jobs and there are people who have suffered a lot worse, so that's a way to look at it.

"We'd have to put markings on the floor for social distancing, we'd have to have marshalls, regular hand cleaning stations and we haven't got that. Bridlington Town Council paid for the public liability insurance and we managed to move that from last year to this year. We don't have any funding.

"We're getting bigger and bigger each year and obviously with the closure of Alderson House last year, it would have been our first on the Foreshore and this year they said 'oh yeah, you've got all the Foreshore' and we're like 'fantastic!' and then, no. So we're a bit disheartened but there's a lot of people who are a lot worse off than us."

Martin added that there SHOULD be a flypast though:

"At the minute weather dependent, we've got at least one, possibly four, World War Two austers and there is some other ones in the background but I don't want to spoil it just in case they don't happen but hopefully there will definitely be an aircraft."
