Barrowcliff dog show returns in Scarborough
Anyone with a dog is welcome tomorrow.
Dog owners in Scarborough are being invited to enter their pet into the Barrowcliff dog show.
Anyone with a dog is welcome tomorrow (Saturday 26th June) and you need to be at the Park Green, opposite the Children's Centre, by 11.30am.
There are a few categories you and your four-legged friend can enter such as best biscuit catcher.
No face coverings are needed but it will be a socially-distanced event.
Bill Chatt is Vice-Chair of the Barrowcliff Big Local and he said:
"It's about bringing the community out and the easiest way to do this was to work with our people who have dogs, because dog owners as we all know are the most social people in the world. They're the only ones during lockdown who actually have still said hello to you as you pass them, whereas everybody else looks at the floor, dog owners do talk to you.
"We're going to have things like the best biscuit catcher, the best child dog handler and the best dog of the day. The first year we did this we actually had a dog that won it with all the rosettes, and I've never seen a dog smile in my life but this dog actually smiled and it's the most amazing picture I've ever seen.
"It's a big park so we're alright and there will be some hand gel there so there's no way we're going to breach Covid but we are saying to people 'you've got to take your dog for a walk, why not pop out and come and see us? You could be the best dog of the day! Or even the golden oldie which would be a good award for a dog over 12 years-old.
"To be honest most residents don't want to be a judge so we've got people who aren't residents to be a judge, because you're hated forever if you don't put someone's dog as the best golden oldie or the best dog of the day, so I mean it's just a bit of fun and we need to have a laugh now".
