Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery in Scarborough.

It took place at approximately 1.10am on Wednesday 13th October at the junction of Seamer Road and Falsgrave Road close to the Shell garage and traffic lights.

A 47-year-old man was approached by two other men who asked for cigarettes, and when the victim tried to ignore the men, he was followed and tried to run away. Police say the victim ended up on the ground and the men tried to take property from him.

Two men, aged 22 and 44, were arrested in connection with the incident. They have been released under investigation pending further enquires.
