North Yorkshire students urged to prepare now for A level results
Grades will be released tomorrow morning
As A Level results day looms students in North Yorkshire are being advised to prepare now in case they don't get the results they want.
Most schools and colleges will be releasing grades from 8o'clock tomorrow.
But Matthew Taylor from York St John University says it's a good idea to think about your plan if you end up going through clearing: "Do some research on Universities that you might be looking at. If you think you might use clearing, look at courses, locations, accommodation if you need it. I would also say while you are doing that note down numbers for clearing lines at the universities that you might be interested in to save you having to scramble around on the day."
"So on clearing day Universities around the country will set up call centres and hotlines. On the day, York St John will have a small army of people ready to take calls, give advice and support people through the process. Essentially what applicants need to do is call up the Universities."
He has this advice for student who will be feeling nervous: "Obviously the first one is much easier said than done but try not to panic on the day. If you see your results and they are not what you potentially hoped for, try not to panic. There will be quite a few options out there for you."
"I think something else is lean into support from family and people that you trust and also talk to your school or college, talk to your universities and UCAS have a fantastic call centre that's set up on and around results day so there'll be loads of people that you can talk to, get help and advice to hopefully make help you make a really good decision."
Is University still worth it?
Some students say they feel that University isn't the right step considering the cost of tuition.
But Matthew Taylor disagrees: "The numbers of people that are going to university remains fairly steady and the cost of going to university is undeniably high. But figures do show that it's still a worthwhile investment in people's future, so the number of people going to universities remain steady and it still seems like a good bet."

If all their friends are going to university, but they should always think the people should go to university for the right reasons that they want to go to university.
