3 deer killed on North Yorkshire roads today alone

It takes the total in May to at least 16 deaths.

Police are urging drivers in North Yorkshire to take extra care in forested areas, after three deer were killed on the county's roads in one day.

North Yorkshire Police says it has dealt with three incidents involving deer today (26 May), and in all three incidents, the animals suffered non-survivable injuries.

Officers say at least 16 deer have been killed on roads in the month of May.

On social media, North Yorkshire Police said: "Collisions with wildlife put motorists at risk, and tragically often result in terrible suffering for the animals involved.

"In particular, deer collisions typically peak at this time of year as the animals search for new territories."

Officers are urging drivers to check their speed, stay alert, and be prepared to stop. North Yorkshire Police has further advice online to protect deer.
