Waveney mums says baby loss certificates are welcome step forward
These documents were previously only available to those who had experienced a loss since September 2018
Two mums from Waveney who've been affected by baby loss are telling us that all parents now being able to apply for certificates to formally recognise their loss is a welcome step forward.
These documents were first launched in February and were previously only available to those who had experienced a loss since September 2018.
The government says it's part of its commitment to ensure that bereaved parents are supported during this difficult time and to make sure the impact and importance of their loss is recognised.
Certificates are free and remain optional for parents.
"There are people who've gone through this who can give you the support you need"
Justine founded local charity 'Angels and Rainbows' after losing a boy and a girl: "I'm not the same person that I was before this. It does change your life and affect you forever.
"I think only a few things in life could ever affect me like that, again."
Natasha lost her daughter Catarina when she was just over 40 weeks old.
She has this advice for those who are struggling: "Take a break if you need to because going through this is not easy when you're surrounded by reminders, especially if you've just gone through it.
"Ask for help, because it is out there and there are people who've gone through this who can give you the support you need."
"There is so much love and so many dreams for the future wrapped up in a tiny life"
Health and Social Care Secretary Wes Streeting said: “Losing a pregnancy can be deeply distressing - there is so much love and so many dreams for the future wrapped up in a tiny life.
"That's why it is important for bereaved parents to have the option to officially recognise the existence of their babies and how much they matter.
"I'm pleased we can now ensure all parents are able to apply for these certificates, no matter how long ago they lost their pregnancies. This government will always listen to women and families as we overhaul our health system to ensure everyone gets compassionate, safe and personalised care.”
